The West Virginia Board of Examiners in Counseling is a state agency charged with protecting the health and safety of the public through licensure, regulation, and oversight of Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT).
The Board may only investigate matters related to an individual LPC or LMFT; it is not permitted, by law, to investigate clinics, health centers, etc. The Board also has no jurisdiction over business disputes, general billing disputes, insurance coverage, personality conflicts, or employee/employer disputes.
During the investigative process, complaints regarding a licensee’s professional conduct are confidential. Complaint Committee meetings where pending complaints and investigations are discussed are confidential proceedings and are not open to the public, the complainant, or the licensee.
The Board makes every effort to respond in a timely manner to address the incident and prevent reoccurrence, through education, rehabilitation, discipline, or revocation when applicable.
COMPLAINT FORM INSTRUCTIONS
The West Virginia Board of Examiners in Counseling (WVBEC), has the authority to suspend, revoke or reprimand a licensee upon determination of probable cause. However, the Board does not have the authority to seek or recover monetary compensation on behalf of the complainant. The complainant may seek restitution through the legal or insurance system if applicable.
If you wish to file a complaint against a licensee of this Board, you will need to complete and submit a Statement of Complaint Form. Please click the title to download and print a copy of the form. Please note, the complaint form must include a signature by the complainant; anonymous complaints cannot be accepted by the Board.
Submit your complaint in type written form if possible. For written submissions, please print legibly.
Provide specific and detailed information pertaining to the allegations to include the date/dates the incident or incidents occurred.
Provide corroboration and or documentation relevant to the allegations specified in the complaint.
