LMFT Licensure by Endorsement is always considered on a case by case basis. As long as the licensing requirements in your state, at the time you first applied for licensure, are substantially equivalent to WV's current requirements then you should have no problem in gaining WV LMFT licensure. We suggest interested applicants review Series 8, LMFT Licensing Rule (Board Rules tab, then Click LMFT Rules), as it outlines the current education, exam, supervision and application requirements.
Additionally, effective August 15, 2016, the licensing rule now includes a provision for the applicant that has actively practiced marriage and family therapy as a licensed marriage and family therapist by maintaining an ongoing caseload for at least five of the last seven years in another jurisdiction, immediately preceding application. The cited portion of Series 8, LPC Licensing Rule is provided below for your review: (For the applicant that does not meet this criteria, they may still apply for Reciprocity/Endorsement and will need to meet the licensure requirements outlined in Series 8. Once you have requested and received the Instructions/Checklist, please see Option #2 for more information.)
5.3. The Board may waive the requirements as listed in 5.2.a.2. and 5.2.a.4. should the endorsement applicant have actively practiced marriage and family therapy as a licensed marriage and family therapist by maintaining an ongoing caseload for at least five of the last seven years in another jurisdiction, immediately preceding application.
5.3.a. Applicants seeking a waiver shall provide the following:
